SPANISH CERAMIC
FROM SEVILLA |
|
Hermanos RAMA, are two brothers that live in a small village on the River Guadalquivir called Villaverde del Rio, north of Seville. These two brothers have recreated what is known as Andalusia Baroque style ceramic. A unique style made for the noble people during the 18th and 19th century. One important thing is that this ceramic is ONLY decorative, it's not usable for food. These pieces have what we call in Spanish a "Craquelado", that consisted of forcing very small little cracks of the surface to give it a old look. Basically what they do is open the ovens before it cools down totally, and they take the pieces out and spray them with cool water. That makes the enamel on the surface of the piece have tiny crack which gives it a get look. But obviously if you do that, you can't use it for food after. Many of these pieces are reproductions of old pieces, and others simply are copies from painting, as they don't exist any more. The brothers RAMA, have really done an excellent work of investigation on Baroque Andalusia Ceramic. These pieces have a lot of work, they are very time consuming and certainly a collectors item. We have many people that come every year to the shop just to buy pieces from theses brother. A curiosity is that the word RAMA comes from combining the first two letters of the two brothers names, Ramon and Manuel. So when you look at the signature, you will see that some are signed by Ramón and others by Manuel. Both are so good, that I can't tell the difference; I really can't tell who of the two painted the piece. I personally have to wait sometimes for months to get things from them, we can order anything special you would like BUUUUUT, you must have patience, at times it takes a few months to get things done, OK |
